Information
The Melodramatics Theatre Company, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Cornell University students Justin Leader and Carlos Dominguez as a community theatre company, open to any person who shared their love of musical theatre, with the goal of producing entertaining musical theatre productions of artistic excellence. In 2007, having enlisted hundreds of Ithaca's most talented artists and performers, the company was incorporated as a non-profit arts organization in the state of New York. Since its founding, the company has entertained thousands of audience members, producing such musicals as Stephen Sondheim's Assassins, Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years and Songs For A New World as well as Bat Boy: The Musical, Candide, Cabaret, I Love You Because, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Little Shop Of Horrors, William Finn's A New Brain and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party. In 2006, the company also had the honor of hosting Jeff Marx, the Tony Award-winning creator of Avenue Q, who came to Cornell University to meet and work with students and company members. Today, the company continues to grow and evolve, boasting an eclectic mix of members from Cornell University, Ithaca College and the Ithaca community.
