Description
Information
At the Maya Angelou Schools, we serve young people aged 11-24, including incarcerated young men and formerly incarcerated young adults. Our mission is to create learning communities where all students, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can reach their potential. The Maya Angelou Schools include a middle school, an alternative high school, a school for incarcerated young men, and a school for young adults who previously dropped out of high school. All of our schools combine rigorous academics with critical wrap-around supports and interventions designed to prevent young people from dropping out of high school and re-engage those who have already dropped out. These supports include onsite mental health counseling, including supports for teen parents; paid internships and vocational training; extended day and weekend tutoring; credit recovery options; and intensive alumni support.
