Some milestones have been bigger than others though. In 1949 we were the first UK company to place trust in a German car, the Volkswagen Beetle, which was described by the British Motor Industry Commission as “bizarre, too flimsy – a toy not to be taken seriously”. The Volkswagen was to alter the course not just of British but global motoring history. 2014 is also another great milestone in the history of Colbornes for we are delighted to announce we are becoming a part of Lookers plc. Lookers, another proud name in the car industry, started trading in 1908 when John Looker, the founder, opened a bicycle shop whilst dealing in the occasional used car. Like Colbornes, the growth and success of Lookers can only be put down to customer satisfaction and fittingly enough, both Lookers and Colbornes share the similar mottos; Customers for Life and Colbornes for Life.
