Description
Information
The Life Cube Project creates engaging, interactive installations designed as social practice art for a community, providing a participatory experience and place for collaborative aesthetic expression. Each Cube inspires participants to write and share their goals, dreams, wishes, and aspirations based on the artist’s belief if you write down what you want to accomplish in life, the chances of attaining it are much higher! In 2011-2013, and returning as an Honorarium project in 2015, the Artist and his team designed, built, and burned four Cubes at Burning Man. Each year, they became larger, more artistic, and increasingly interactive. In 2014, a 24' Life Cube was erected on a city block in downtown Las Vegas, funded in part by the Downtown Project, where local artists painted evolving and overlapping murals. The installation reached 5,000 schoolchildren who contributed their own art to the Cube's Tapestry Wall. The installation ended in a celebration where the Cube burned before 10,000 members of the community. In 2015, a non-burning metal and glass Life Cube was featured at the Reno Sculpture Fest. The 12’ sculpture included murals, Tapestry Walls, and art and wishes contributed by 1,000s of schoolchildren with outreach to prison inmates, recovering addicts, and challenged youth. Unlike previous Cubes, where "Wish-Stick" postcards were placed inside and burned, this Cube featured a Wish-Tag Wall, where participants wrote on colorful tags tied to the Cube for others to read. The Life Cube has attracted artists and photographers from across the globe, enthusiastic press coverage, grants, institutional underwriting, and crowd-sourced donations from over 1,000 individuals supporting the non-profit project. Future installations are planned for burning and metal installations with the mission of connecting art with community, and inspiring forward-thinking and achievement through participation and outreach to artists, schools, and community centers.
