Leeds University Malaysian Society (LUMSOC)

Established in 2005, Leeds University Malaysian Society (abbreviated as LUMSOC) has been one of the many major cultural societies registered under the University of Leeds Student Union with the initial purpose of overseeing the welfare of Malaysians studying in University of Leeds as well as being an ambassador of Malaysian culture. As time passes by, the focus of the LUMSOC Committee has also grown over the years as the Committee has also aspired to take up the responsibility to cater to MaLeedsian (Leeds Malaysian) students’ personal development. LUMSOC events are also growing in scale in the sense that there has been a drastic increase in the number of events open for Malaysians throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, not just for those in Leeds. Some events can even be attended by non-Malaysians, retaining the portrayal of our role of exposing the Malaysian culture. We strongly believe that LUMSOC's focus on development of the Malaysian students in Leeds is our most unique trait, amongst others. Both the global and the local environment of our home, Malaysia are becoming more competitive. Therefore, we think that it is important for us to take up the responsibility of equipping the Malaysian students with a whole range of knowledge and abilities. Our activities and events portfolio are constructed with the notion of a holistic development in mind, be it spiritual, physical, intellectual or skills. Our vision is for Leeds to become the hub for skilled and capable Malaysians to be born, so that they can serve the country in the future.
