On September 7, 2006 Louis Dreyfus announced their plans to build a 2500 mt per day canola crush facility in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The facility will produce roughly 500,000 mt of meal and 350,000 mt of canola oil per year. Yorkton was selected for many reasons:
Quality canola production centre
Major transportation corridor – both rail and highway
Good water availability and accessibility
Strong business relationships with corporate, political and community leaders
Access to quality workforce
Opportunity to further enhance business operations in Western Canada.
The Yorkton facility will be complimentary to our asset base in the United States and will benefit through synergies in capital procurement and rail fleet management and utilization. The Yorkton plant will also allow Louis Dreyfus to diversify crushing operations in its North American and Global portfolio.
