Founded as one of the first privately owned banks in Poland in 1990, Kredyt Bank was the 7th bank in Poland in terms of assets at the end of 2012. Acquired several banks including Bank Ziemski w Warszawie, Wrocław Bank, Powszechny Bank Handlowy Gecobank S.A., Bank Regionalny w Rybniku, Bank Depozytowo-Powierniczy Glob and Prosper Bank S.A. From 1994 listed on Warsaw Stock Exchange. In 1997 merged with Polski Bank Inwestycyjny SA. In 2002 KBC Group became its majority shareholder. In July 2011 KBC informed about its intention to divest majority shareholding in Kredyt Bank. In February 2012 KBC and Banco Santander announced the deal aimed at merging Kredyt Bank with BZ WBK. The merger got registered January 4th, 2013 and Kredyt Bank ceased to exist.
