The Language Society was created in 2008. It is based on the fact that half of the students at King’s are international students: they all speak at least one foreign language fluently. So instead of giving away all your money to attend language courses whose times, contents and durations you can’t even choose, just use us to get in touch with students who speak the language you want to learn. We provide the link between “teachers” and “students” through an up-to-date database available once you’ve joined the society. You just have to contact your teacher and start your language course. You will usually be taught on a one-to-one basis but you might also end up in a small group. Every member of KCLLS has the opportunity to learn up to 3 languages and in exchange will have to teach 1 language to other members. As the society is made of students who have probably never taught any language class before, KCLLS will provide every teacher with basic instructions on how to teach efficiently. This support will range from an introductory meeting and e-mails on how to teach a language class, to advice on suitable textbooks you should purchase or how to include interactive material into your teaching. Therefore, besides learning a new language, you will also learn how to be a teacher - something which might set you apart from the rest of the crowd when looking for a job. We think that, as each student will also be a teacher, mutual understanding will be greatly facilitated. There will thus be an interactive relationship between the teacher and his/her student which will improve the efficiency of their work together. Finally, as any other respectable students’ society, KCLLS will have various events to promote multiple cultures within King’s, as well as socials for members to meet and share their experiences.
