About J.N. MURRAY LIMITED
Murrays has been owned and run by the same family for over eighty years. All the company directors live in or near Barrow-in-Furness and work actively in the business.
The company employs over 150 people all of whom are known to the Company Chairman.
JN Murray Ltd, or Murrays as it is affectionately known, was established in the early 1930's in Barrow-in-Furness by Norman Murray. The shop on Settle Street was the first Murrays Pharmacy, where Norman lived with his wife Florence, who ran the Post Office on Bowness Road.
Florence and Norman had two children, Donald and Gavine. After qualifying as a pharmacist, Donald worked with his father, to grow Murrays further. while Gavine opened and ran the Murrays Gift Shop on Dalton Road. After Norman's death, Donald worked with his wife Lynda, to further develop the business. Donald and Lynda had a daughter Helen who currently works as a director of the business with her husband Jonathan Hartley.
Jonathan and Helen appointed John Murtagh as Pharmacy Superintendent of Murrays and the three working Directors continue to keep Murrays looking for new opportunities, with the guiding hand of Lynda Murray in the background.
Murrays shops are heavily staffed and designed to a high standard in order to be able to offer an excellent level of service to our customers.
