About James L. Maher Center
The James L. Maher Center, Newport, RI, is devoted to providing a broad range of services that advance independence and create opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities, their families and the community at large.
Our programs and services are designed to provide the individual with developmental disabilities the personalized support they need, including vocational, educational and therapeutic services as required, and to provide employment opportunities so that adults with developmental disabilities can engage as fully as possible in life experiences and live their lives with dignity and respect.
In order to provide employment for our clients and generate funds to support our mission, the Maher Center also offers a range of services for businesses and individuals, sells retail products including plants and gardening supplies through our Garden Center in Middletown, RI, Beaded Star hand-made jewelry and craft supplies through the Craft Stop online store, and hosts numerous fundraising and special events throughout the year.
