JAMA Surgery, which began publication in 1920, is an international peer-reviewed journal and a member of the JAMA Network family of journals, which includes JAMA, 11 JAMA Network specialty journals, and JAMA Network Open. it is also the official publication of the Association of VA Surgeons, the Pacific Coast Surgical Association and the Surgical Outcomes Club. JAMA Surgery is published online weekly, every Wednesday, and in print/online issues 12 times a year. The journal receives more than 1.8 million online visits annually, with more than 2 million article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the website. In addition, the online version is freely available or nearly so to institutions in developing countries through the World Health Organization's HINARI program.The journal's acceptance rate is 11% for research manuscripts. The median time to first editorial decision is as low as 3 days. All major articles are published online first. The journal's Impact Factor is 7.96, ranking second among general surgery journals. Our mission is to promote the art and science of surgery by publishing relevant peer-reviewed research to assist the surgeon in optimizing patient care.
