The International Social Service (ISS) is an international NGO founded in Geneva in 1924; it is organized in a network of national entities and a General Secretariat that assist children and families confronted with complex social problems as a result of migration. While ISS’s first activities were mainly centered on accompanying people on the move and re-establishing family links, the network has expanded its services to match new challenges and needs in the socialsector. Thanks to its presence in more than 100 countries, ISS is a global actor promoting childprotection and welfare. While cross border social work constitutes the network’s historical andcurrent engagement, ISS focuses as well on training and capacity building for social workers andcare givers. Support to enhance child protection systems and legislation is yet another activityInternational Social Service excels in. Advocacy, policy development and research in favor of andpromoting children’s rights are at the heart of our programs. Hence, ISS has assisted severalmillion children and families worldwide since its foundation 92 years ago.
