Hoku Corporation

Hoku Corporation was founded in 2001. The company initially focused on developing and bringing to market its proprietary fuel cell membrane technology and worked with customers including Nissan, Sanyo and the U.S. Navy. Hoku was listed on the Nasdaq Exchange in 2005.As Hoku began to diversify its clean-energy products and services, the company founded two complementary and wholly-owned subsidiaries: Hoku Solar and Hoku Materials. Hoku Solar specialized in investment-grade solar projects for commercial, industrial and utility users in Hawaii - including large-scale rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) arrays for businesses, institutions and government clients. Hoku Materials would manufacture and sell solar-grade polysilicon for manufacturers of PV products from a production facility in Pocatello, Idaho. Polysilicon is the primary raw material used to manufacture PV cells and modules.In 2010, Hoku Corporation became a majority-owned subsidiary of Tianwei New Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. (TWNE), a manufacturer of renewable energy products in China. In 2013, Hoku Corporation and its subsidiary companies ceased business operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.
