WHO ARE WE?The Hiscock Legal Aid Society promotes the fundamental right of every person to equal justice under the law by providing high quality legal assistance to individuals and families in need in Onondaga County and the surrounding region. The organization currently employs a staff of 65, including 34 attorneys and 12 law assistants. We represent people in our community with low income. We work collaboratively with other legal assistance and human service providers to develop innovative ways to provide needed services to the maximum number of people in our community. WHO DO WE HELP?We are the major legal advocate for domestic violence victims in Onondaga County, and in this role, we help prevent violence in the home and help victims leave abusive situations. We prevent eviction and homelessness for countless families who would otherwise require costly emergency assistance and shelter. We help our clients obtain the necessary financial support to keep their homes and families together. By providing legal representation and access to the courts, we help clients achieve peaceful resolutions to potentially explosive conflicts and promote respect for the law and the legal system. We handle more than 4,500 cases each year. WHY DO WE HELP?We are dedicated to the principle that no one in Onondaga County shall be denied justice because of a lack of means.
