Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta

Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization that brings the community together to help working families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership. We are responding to the need for an affordable home-ownership option to help address our local affordable housing challenge.Since 1990, we have partnered with nearly 300 families across southern Alberta, affecting the lives of more than 800 children, Altogether we have provided more than 2000 years of housing stability to working families. Families purchase their homes from us through Habitat’s affordable mortgage, with no down-payment and no interest, and payments that never exceed more than 25 per cent of their total household income. This approach provides homeowner families with a solid foundation for better and healthier futures for both children and parents.With the support of sponsors, donors, community partners, building contractors and trades, and volunteers, we also build the homes for families to purchase. Homes are sold at fair-market value to qualified families. Mortgage payments go into our Fund for Humanity to help build more homes for more working families.We operate in Calgary and in other communities of Southern Alberta, working with volunteers in these communities to respond to local need for affordable home-ownership opportunities. Our operations are significantly supported by our ReStores. ReStores are professionally-run retail outlets which sell high-quality donated furniture, appliances and home improvement materials at 30 to 70 % off normal retail prices. Our ReStores help businesses deal positively and responsibly with excess or discontinued inventory, and help cost-conscious renovators and decorators with bargains on great merchandise.
