Groupe Basan
Groupe Basan, headquartered in Antananarivo, Madagascar, has a rich history rooted in entrepreneurial spirit and a steadfast belief in the potential of its people. Founded on August 15, 1947, by H.J. Barday, the group initially focused on the textile trade before transitioning to industrial operations with the establishment of the Tannerie d’Anjeva. Today, the leather division encompasses the entire value chain, from the collection and tanning of zebu hides to the manufacturing and distribution of footwear under the Aigle d’Or brand.
In 1963, Groupe Basan expanded into the consumer goods sector with the launch of its JB brand, which has since become one of Madagascar's leading distributors of food and hygiene products. The company excels in the importation of finished and semi-finished goods, local manufacturing, and a sophisticated logistics network that ensures comprehensive distribution across the island. This extensive expertise enables Groupe Basan to develop strong brands that resonate with Malagasy consumers.
In the early 1990s, the group diversified into processed agricultural products, establishing Lecofruit, which connects thousands of farmers from Madagascar's highlands to international markets. Lecofruit has emerged as a leading global producer of extra-fine green beans, offering both conventional and organic products (Label AB). Recently, in collaboration with the French company Nutriset, Groupe Basan launched Tanjaka Food, a production unit focused on solutions for treating and preventing malnutrition. Through these initiatives, Groupe Basan reaffirms its commitment to being a socially responsible economic player, addressing key challenges in Madagascar while fostering local development and expertise.
