Grindstone Charley’s is owned by Clancy’s, Inc. which developed and owns other successful restaurant concepts Michaelangelo’s Italian Bistro and Clancy’s Hamburgers. The company is headquartered in Noblesville, IN.So who’s Charley, is that the owner, you ask? Not exactly. The first Grindstone Charley’s opened in 1982 to rave reviews in Noblesville Indiana by founders Carl & Perry Fogelsong. The idea for the restaurant came up as an old restaurant called “The Inheritance” became available in Noblesville. The Fogelsong’s went on a trip to Grindstone City, Michigan to think of ideas for the concept. Carl’s best friend “Charley” was in attendance. Over some good fun and great wine – “Grindstone Charley’s” was born over night!Carl Fogelsong, member of the Indiana Restaurant Hall of Fame fully believed in quality, service, and cleanliness and was a pioneer in the Indiana restaurant community.
