Wellington Shields & Co. was formed in 2009 by combining H.G. Wellington & Co. dating back to 1925 and Shields & Company founded in 1982. It is a New York Stock Exchange member firm providing full service brokerage to institutions and high net worth individual and family accounts. Great Lakes Review is an investment strategy for the growth-oriented investor. The objective is to make money for the long-term fundamental investor by gradually accumulating a diversified portfolio of medium-sized growth companies from a universe of no more than 30 companies that meet certain specific criteria. The focus on medium-sized companies is justified by the earnings momentum generally associated with an entrepreneurial, aggressive, creative management still relatively immune to the potholes of corporate bureaucracy and able to grow the company's earnings geometrically from a low base.
