Graduate Program on Computacional Modeling at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande

PPG in Computational Modeling is an interdisciplinary program that involves the development of mathematical models, algorithms and techniques of simulation, data manipulation, data mining, among others.Computational Modeling incorporates mathematical, statistical and computational methodologies through an articulated and dialogued strategy. This approach allows the elaboration and use of models in the most diverse resolutions and levels of detail. A computational model can allow synergetic interaction between the various mathematical and statistical paradigms available for the representation of a complex phenomenon within the same framework.Thus, Computational Modeling operates as a means of contact and exchange between other more traditional forms of modeling, such as statistics and mathematics, in order to reach another perspective.Computer Science is present in this context, since it develops by efficiently executing simulations, the planning of interfaces that enhance the synergy between users and artificial agents, the development of search and optimization techniques, among others.Due to the need for interaction between areas of knowledge and in view of the heterogeneous character present in the challenges involved, Computational Modeling requires, for its treatment, faculty and student body willing to interdisciplinary action. Knowing that this assumption is not trivial to be met, the program seeks to take actions to build an institutional culture of interdisciplinary work from the experiences and interests of the groups involved, from the lines of research.
