GLOBAL Reinsurance Corporation of America

The US Branch of Gerling Globale had been licensed in 1963. GLOBAL Reinsurance (GLOBAL Re), once the sixth largest reinsurance group in the world, voluntarily implemented exit strategies in 2002 and is considered one of the biggest run-offs in reinsurance history. After voluntarily entering into run-off, GLOBAL Re efficiently managed its liabilities and commuted many reinsurance agreements where it was either a ceding or an assuming reinsurer. The U.S. operations (formerly Gerling Global Reinsurance Corporation of America) are now managed by AXA Liabilities Managers, Inc. (AXA LM). In June 2014 AXA LM announced that it successfully completed the acquisition conducted by AXA LM’s investment vehicle AXA DBIO fund and welcomed some of GLOBAL Re’s recognized team of legacy professionals. AXA LM services two clients: the AXA Group and the investors in the AXA DBIO fund. AXA is one of the investors in this fund. AXA LM’s goal is to maintain profitability and create value by bringing liabilities as quickly as possible to finality to satisfy investors and launch subsequent investment funds for future acquisitions of run-off portfolios.
