About Fownes Brothers & Co., Inc.
ESTABLISHED 1777
Fownes Brothers and Co., Inc. Was established in 1777 by John and Thomas Fownes in the English city of Worcester; a prosperous and prestigious glove trade center. Fownes Brothers entered the American market in 1887 with a sales office in New York City. To date, the New York office remains a hub for design, development and North American Sales. Manufacturing facilities were opened in both Gloversville and Amsterdam, N.Y. in 1903.
EXPANSION
In the late 1950’s, manufacturing shifted from the US and the Caribbean basin. Fownes first expanded to the Philippines in 1959, then Southern China in 1984. As international business prospered, Fownes/One Stop established and office in Shanghai in 2002. This helped to address the interests of global customers. The Shanghai office coordinates all production, marketing, and sales logistics for Asian operations.
As Fownes continued to thrive, we purchased Tabar In. in 2014, uniting the two world renowned glove companies and forming Fownes Performance Group. Fownes Performance Group, a division of Fownes Brothers & Co., Inc, services the outdoor, activity and occupational specific markets. Fownes Brothers & Co. Inc. currently has office locations on both coasts of the United States, Shanghai, and Korea. Fownes also has wholly owned factories in China and the Philippines, as well as manufacturing partners in China, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Ethiopia, India and Taiwan.
