FoodRescue.ca brings communities together to rescue excess food and reduce our environmental impact. SMART. It’s a whole new way for food businesses to donate surplus food directly to local social service organizations that feed people experiencing food insecurity. SIMPLE. This free and easy-to-use tool keeps perfectly edible food from being thrown away. We provide food donors with peace-of-mind by confirming recipient organizations are charities or not-for profits with food programs. We also check that safe food handling practices are in place for perishable food rescues. LOCAL. Food donations are matched with social service organizations based on distance, availability, and the types of food offered. Rescuing organizations pick up donations directly from food donors, often right in the neighbourhood. Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, is building Foodrescue.ca to nourish local communities.We're currently working with food donors and not-for-profit groups across Ontario and in Lower Mainland British Columbia.
