The roots of this East Devon estate lie in Norman times and it has been the home of the Kennaway family for over two hundred years. The Escot of today is a place of great natural beauty, refreshingly uncommercial, it offers visitors a great family day out. Enjoy the world-class Beech Hedge maze, explore the woodlands and discover hidden playgrounds. Test your nerve on the Forest Dropslide and meet our cheeky family of otters, wild boar and red squirrels. Younger children will be thrilled by the indoor play barn and everyone will enjoy the birds of prey displays (check beforehand as they do not fly every day during winter months). The Coach House Restaurant serves excellent home-cooked lunches and snacks and for those that wish to enjoy the Devon countryside there are plenty of picnic spots and quiet places to admire the views. Known as the natural place for very good reason (you will meet peacocks and guinea fowl roaming free) we provide sanctuary to endangered species including beavers, water voles, dormice and of course red squirrels. Our education department has an excellent reputation and runs courses and activity days to inspire children to discover the natural world – and to get very muddy! We are also home to Camp Wild – a children’s residential and day camp at Yurt Village which is so much fun most don’t want to go home!Although not generally open to the public, Escot House is available for weddings, conferences and other family and corporate gatherings.
