EMBRC - European Marine Biological Resource Centre

Created in 2013, the European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC) is among Europe’s leading research infrastructures (RI). Its team of scientists accelerate knowledge in ocean science to foster sustainable development and meet today's societal challenges. Up until now, more than 70 leading marine sites in 9 countries across Europe have joined EMBRC with the aim of exploring marine biodiversity. The organisation mobilises scientists, industries, international organisations, policymakers and citizens towards Open Science. EMBRC provides marine biological resources and access to coastal ecosystems with cutting-edge research facilities and expertise in marine biology and ecology. With its biodiversity observatory EMOBON (European Marine Omics Biodiversity Observation Network), EMBRC produces genomic data and contributes to the global biodiversity observation network and the UN Ocean Decade of Ocean Science. EMBRC supports training for future generations with its e-learning platform Marine Training. In the face of global environmental challenges, EMBRC contributes to the European effort in understanding marine biodiversity and to the global science-based decision-making process. It was granted the status of European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) by the European Commission in 2018.
