Electrocentrale Bucureşti S.A. (ELCEN) is a Romanian legal entity, a joint stock company. ELCEN was established in December 2002 as a subsidiary of Termoelectrica S.A. by reorganizing this company. Currently, the Ministry of Energy is the main shareholder of the company, holding 97.51 % of the shares, the remaining shares being held by Romgaz SNGZ (2.49 %).The company activity is the production, transmission, distribution, dispatching and selling heat, but also the production and sale of electricity.ELCEN is the largest heat producer in Romania (40%) and Bucharest (90%). The company owns four power plants and a repair plant in Bucharest. The power plants include energy units in cogeneration, as well as peak load energy units (hot water boilers). The heat produced is supplied to Bucharest District Heating System, covering the needs of aprox. 1.2 million consumers connected to SACET (The Centralized Heat Supply System).
