Description
Information
Founded on August 15, 1934 by E.J. Quinby, the ERA is a non-profit educational organization consisting of people from all walks of life interested in the history and progress of electric railways. All ERA members receive an annual issue of Headlights, America’s premier journal dedicated to light rail transit, subways, interurbans, electric railroads and other forms of electric transportation around the world. Each full color, ad-free issue is packed with in-depth coverage contributed by leading writers and photographers in the transit field. All ERA members receive monthly issues of The Bulletin. Each 20-page issue of The Bulletin consists primarily of news about New York-area transit, with additional reporting devoted to national and international systems. Members have the option of receiving The Bulletin by mail or online. All ERA members may come to our free monthly meetings to see photo and movie presentations by well-known transit writers and photographers. The meetings take place 10 times a year, every month except July and August, on the third Friday of each month at 7:15 p.m. Starting in January 2014, meetings will be held in the Vanderbilt Suite on the second floor of The Roosevelt Hotel at 45 East 45th Street on Madison Avenue. All ERA members are invited to attend the ERA Convention, held annually in a North American city with electric rail operations. The 2013 ERA Convention was held in Denver and Salt Lake City. Every other year the ERA conducts a two-week tour of urban, rural and interurban traction systems in a foreign country. The next tour will be held in May 2014 and will include electric railways, trams and more in Japan.
