Des McDonald Restaurants consist of the London based Vintage Salt Liverpool Street, Vintage Salt Upper Street (formerly The Fish & Chip Shop), Q Grill Camden, Holborn Dining Room, and a seasonal pop up on the roof of Selfridges, The Printing Press (Edinburgh), Burr & Co (Edinburgh), The Refectory (York), Chapter House (York). Opening soon are Rofuto (Birmingham) and Hope & Field (London) From his early years Des has always loved the restaurant industry. After leaving culinary school, he pursued his dreams and for the first 8 years honed his skills by cooking in 5-star hotels, building up his knowledge and experience. In 1992 Des got his break with Caprice Holdings working as Head Chef at the legendary Ivy Restaurant. Thus followed a very successful 20 years with the Caprice Group, including 12 years in a Managing Director and Group CEO role, overseeing the acquisition and running of, in addition to Caprice Holdings, the Soho House Group and Annabel’s Group. In Jan 2012 Des made the decision to set up on his own, to create and develop his own restaurants and also following various requests set up an advisory/ consultancy company. The consultancy has helped clients, revitalising and updating the standards of operation, training, design and overall structure to bring sales, GP’s and covers back in line. Also, enjoying working with new ventures, helping with the concept/design and overall operation both in the UK and Overseas. Working with a highly skilled team of independent individuals and well versed professional companies, who have worked within the catering industry for over 20 years, Des is always looking to build his team.
