Department of Conservation (DOC)

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is the central government organisation charged with promoting conservation of the natural and historic heritage of New Zealand on behalf of, and for the benefit of, present and future New Zealanders. Our vision is that New Zealand is the greatest living space on Earth - Kāore he wāhi i tua atu i a Aotearoa, hei wahi noho i te ao. We want to see New Zealanders gain environmental, social and economic benefits from healthy functioning ecosystems, from recreation opportunities, and from living our history. To get us there we have five intermediate outcomes: 1. The diversity of our natural heritage is maintained and restored 2. Our history is protected and brought to life 3. More people participate in recreation 4. More people engage with conservation and value its benefits 5. Conservation gains from more business partnerships
