Since its inception in 1982, the D.C. Lottery has transferred more than $1.8 billion to the District of Columbia's General Fund. The D.C. Lottery's annual transfer to the General Fund remains a vital component in aiding the city's economy, thereby benefiting all residents of District of Columbia, as well as suburban commuters and tourists. As a self-supporting agency under the purview of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the District of Columbia, the D.C. Over the past 30 years, the Charitable Games Division of the D.C. Lottery has issued more than 3,000 licenses to the organizations that have raised more than $123 million for food, education, housing, health care, and other basic needs and services for residents of the District of Columbia.
