Our mission is to enable individuals with disabilities and other special needs to achieve their potential by fostering community inclusiveness and independence.
Dallas Services believes that people of all abilities have a right to learn, grow and play, without barriers, in our community. We are committed to providing affordable, inclusive and unique pre-school learning opportunities and low vision services to all children and their families in our culturally and economically diverse community. Dallas Services recognizes that families, who have children with special needs, often have unique concerns and questions. Our Special Needs/Inclusion program offers families education, training and advocacy. Learning to be an advocate is critical as children with special needs and their families navigate special education and other social services.
Dallas Services has provided care for children with special needs for over 60 years. Founded in 1949 when Adam Sack started a school for blind children rather than send his visually impaired daughter to a state institution, Dallas Services is one of the oldest child-serving nonprofit organizations in Dallas. Dallas Services has evolved to include related nonprofit community services: The Low Vision Clinic, Dallas and Mesquite Day Schools, and the Special Needs Advocacy and Awareness Program.
