Curzon

Since the launch of our flagship cinema in 1934, we have been inviting film lovers to open their eyes to new worlds and new ways of seeing with our rich programme that caters to all manner of tastes. This spirit of discovery – the same one that propelled our founder Harold Wingate to import unknown films during the postwar period – is at the heart of everything we do at Curzon. Our luxurious venues across the UK each have their own unique personalities and design, from Mayfair’s art deco classicism to Canterbury Riverside’s spacious modernity. Our cinemas are equipped with the latest digital projectors and ATMOS sound available at a number of sites, to offer a peerless viewing experience. Of course, we wouldn’t be where we are today without our committed staff and, in 2015, Curzon became the first independent UK cinema group to pay the Living Wage. In 2010, we launched the curated at-home service Curzon Home Cinema, giving our audience flexibility on when, where and how they enjoy great cinema. We have been releasing Curzon films day and date for over a decade, thereby increasing access. Curzon is split into two distinct strands: we are an exhibitor that shows other companies’ films, and a distributor that buys and shows our own films. In 2006, we acquired Artificial Eye, a film-distribution company with a strong legacy of releasing critically acclaimed independent cinema to discerning audiences. Founded in 1976 – and renamed Curzon Film in 2021 – we have released more Palme d’Or winners than any other UK distributor. Curzon Film enjoyed its most successful year at the box office in 2020, Parasite, which made history as the first non-English-language film to win Best Picture. In 2017, we were awarded the BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema which is proudly displayed at our London HQ.
