Established through the consolidation of several smaller districts, the district has a rich history that began with the construction of its first high school, Carl Sandburg High School, in 1953. Following the success of Sandburg, Amos Alonzo Stagg High School was built in Palos Hills, opening in 1964 after a successful bond issue approved by local voters. The district further expanded with the addition of Victor J.
