The Chinese American International School (CAIS), located at 150 Oak Street in San Francisco, is a pioneering educational institution that has been shaping the future of bilingual education since its inception in 1981. Founded by a diverse group of parents, educators, and civic leaders, CAIS offers a unique bilingual and multicultural curriculum in English and Chinese, designed to prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world. Under the visionary leadership of Shirley Lee, the school began with just four students in two modest classrooms, establishing itself as the first of its kind in the nation. Today, CAIS serves 556 students from Preschool through eighth grade, continuing to thrive as one of the few independent dual language immersion programs in the United States.
