Information
The JDRF Canadian Clinical Trials Network is a groundbreaking effort to accelerate made-in-Canada solutions to the management, care and cure of type 1 diabetes and more broadly be the authoritative voice of all diabetes research. The CCTN is currently developing several high profile clinical trials in association with leading diabetes researchers at partner universities and medical centers in Southern Ontario. Our goal is to position Southern Ontario as an international hub for diabetes translational research, innovation, and commercialization of new therapeutics and enabling technologies. The history of diabetes research in Canada is, in every sense, a history of innovation. From the world-changing discovery of insulin by Sir Fredrick Banting and Dr. Charles Best to the more recent breakthrough in islet transplantation known as the "Edmonton Protocol," Canadians have made an immeasurable impact upon the lives of those with diabetes. Now, as the global leader in diabetes research, JDRF has partnered with the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario to continue this Canadian tradition of innovation in diabetes research. The $34 million JDRF Canadian Clinical Trials Network aims to accelerate clinical research in type 1 diabetes, by developing and conducting high profile clinical trials with leading universities and medical centers in the province of Ontario. With a broad mission, spanning advanced technology like the artificial pancreas, through cutting-edge immune therapies and other biological interventions, the CCTN will be at the center of Canadian and worldwide efforts to cure type 1 diabetes.
