Political Organization

CIB was formed in 1969 as a cross party coalition mainly from the Labour party at that time up until 1973 Common Market entry, active in the 1975 referendum, in the general election of 1983, and during subsequent Treaties especially Maastricht. We are an umbrella group supported by public donations with an elected executive of up to 14 members, that has become recognised as the leading group of eurosceptic withdrawal thinking. CIB is non-party political, non racist and non sectarian That is our great strength. Our Constitution states “to campaign for the restoration of full national sovereignty to the UK by its withdrawal from the obligations of the Treaties of European Union and the repeal of the European Communities Act 1972 as amended so that Parliament may legislate freely and the UK may co-operate with other nations as it thinks fit” We are pro European but anti EU. Our organisation is a broad church but we will not tolerate not only racists but also extremists from both sides of the political divide. Our co-Presidents are Sir Richard Body and Lord Stoddart of Swindon, the latter serving as our Chairman for over 23 years. Our Vice Presidents are Lord Pearson of Rannoch, Leolin Price CBE QC, Nigel Spearing (for nine years Chairman of the European Scrutiny Committee in the Commons), Sir Teddy Taylor and Sir Robin Williams.
