The mission of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts is to create, encourage and sustain, throughout the State of Arkansas, an educational community of academically talented students, faculty and staff that pursues knowledge of mathematics, sciences and the arts. As one of only 16 public residential schools in the country, ASMSA specializes in the education of students with an interest in advanced careers in math and science as well as passion for and creativity within studio and digital arts. All classes are taught at the college level and more than one-third of the faculty holds doctorate degrees. Enrollment is open to all Arkansas students with free tuition, room and board.
The school offers nearly 60 courses that allow students to earn college credit. Many ASMSA graduates begin college at the sophomore level, and some even begin with junior level classes. Through our Concurrent Core program, all ASMSA graduates earn at least 40 hours of college credit through partnerships with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and National Park College. The living and learning environment at ASMSA provides an experience that extends beyond the classroom and after graduation.
Beyond the 240 students in the residential program, ASMSA collaborates with a variety of districts and schools to provide quality digital instruction to meet gaps in human, technical, and instructional resources. ASMSA’s distance education efforts, which began through Act 1083 of 1999, the program has grown from serving 228 students during its first year of operation (1998-99) to an estimated 1,000 students annually. ASMSA’s digital learning efforts consist of two, focused programs: Arkansas STEM Pathways and the Global Languages and Shared Societies (GLASS) Initiative.
ASMSA exists to assist schools and districts by providing appropriately challenging learning opportunities to talented and motivated students throughout Arkansas.
