Mission
From AVER's by-laws: "American Veterans for Equal Rights is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender-founded veterans’ advocacy and service organization dedicated to the equal and fair treatment of all service members and veterans while honoring the service and sacrifices of all service members and veterans."
Although AVER was founded by LGBT veterans, membership is open to anyone who supports our missions and goals, LGBT and "Straight Allies" alike, and does not in any way suggest or imply sexual orientation or gender identity.

American Veterans for Equal Rights, Inc. [AVER] is a registered 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization run by volunteers.
Originally founded as Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual Veterans of America [GLBVA] on 17 May 1990 in Washington, DC, the name was changed in 2002 to American Veterans for Equal Rights, Inc. [AVER] to better reflect its diverse membership and raison d'être.
