The American Communication Association (ACA) was founded in 1993 for the purposes of (a) fostering scholarship in all areas of human communication behavior, (b) promoting excellence in the pedagogy of communication, (c) providing a voice in communication law and policy, and (d) providing evaluation and certification services for academic programs in communication study.
The ACA is a not-for-profit virtual professional association with actual presence in the world of communication scholars and practitioners. ACA is committed to enabling the effective use of new and evolving communication technologies to facilitate instruction, research, and criticism; it offers a technologically-supportive venue for all who study the ways in which humans communicate.
While the Association is geographically based in the United States, it is an organization that welcomes participation from academics and professionals throughout the world.
