Alphastrut

Alphastrut® is a unique aluminium support system that was originally developed as a weight-saving solution for raised access flooring and cable containment in the living quarters modules and local equipment rooms of offshore oil and gas platforms. Its innovative design has seen the system selected for installation on BP, Nexen and Det norske platforms, ensuring both reduced weight and lower costs on the projects. Aluminium’s natural properties mean Alphastrut has impressive load-bearing capabilities, despite weighing significantly less than galvanised and stainless steel alternatives. Its lighter weight means less strain on supporting structures, easier handling and reduced transport costs, together with simpler installation. The raised access flooring and fully-integrated sub-floor cable containment system can be installed without hot works, helping to cut the time and cost of fit-out. It can also be specified to eradicate the need for sub-floor cabinet support plinths and to create the optimum sub-floor space, allowing for large cable ladder runs on multiple tiers. Alphastrut’s ceiling service support grid can also be installed without hot works and offers other significant practical benefits. Services can be fixed anywhere on the overhead grid without the need for welded brackets, giving more freedom to designers and contributing further weight savings. While the system was developed for use on offshore oil and gas platforms, where saving weight and corrosion resistance are key, it is also suitable for environments such as food processing facilities, petrochemical plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing and rooftop service walkways. As aluminium is non-shedding, Alphastrut is ideal for use in datacentres and clean rooms.
