The Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Turkey signed an Agreement on Cooperation in Ankara on May 12, 2010. The Agreement provides for construction of the Nuclear Power Plant comprising four power units of AES-2006 Project with VVER-1200 reactor of the total capacity of 4,800 MW on the South coast of Turkey in Mersin province.
Akkuyu NPP Construction Project in Turkey is the first NPP project implemented on the BOO (build-own-operate) principles. Under the long-term contract the Company assumes responsibility for designing, constructing, maintaining, operating and decommissioning of the plant.
It is worth to note that Russian companies will provide the bulk delivery of equipment and hi-tech products for Project implementation, but the Project also supposes maximum involvement of Turkish companies in construction and assembly activities as well as companies from other countries. In the future Turkish specialists will participate in NPP operation at every stage of the Plant life.
