Airbus has a growing presence in North and Latin America, with more than 60 customers across the region employing a full-range of Airbus aircraft. Major carriers, low-cost operators, cargo airlines and leasing companies across the Americas have ordered every Airbus aircraft model - from the 100-seat A318 to the 21st century flagship A380.
Airbus opened its first North American design and engineering facility in 2002, bringing together some of America's top talent to work on the 525-seat A380 and other long-range Airbus programs. Located in Wichita, Kansas, the center has grown to employ some 250 engineers. In June 2010, the Wichita location was expanded with a second engineering center to focus on wing work for Airbus aircraft, and house a team of in-service repair engineers specializing in critical support for customers around the world.
Officially opened in February 2007, the Airbus Americas Engineering facility in Mobile, Alabama is responsible for various interior elements of Airbus' newest aircraft, the A350 XWB - including design and engineering work on its cabin, crew rest, lavatories and galleys. In 2008, this facility was expanded into a larger scale industrial site for final assembly and outfitting of the KC-45A Tanker, as well as the A330 Freighter.
