The Veterans Memorial Medical Center (of the Philippines, formerly known as Veterans Memorial Hospital) was established in 1955 with full assistance by the government of the United States of America under the US Veterans Administration to provide quality hospitalization, medical care and treatment to Filipino veterans as provided by U.S. public law.
Patients were originally those who suffered from service-connected disabilities arising from their services with the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE), recognized guerrilla units, Philippine Scouts, and Philippine Commonwealth Army, which was later extended to Armed Force of the Philippines retirees and their dependents.
Civilian patients are also treated in the facility.
The VMMC hosts numerous accredited training programs in multiple specialty areas of clinical medicine, with qualified specialists manning outpatient clinics and surgical facilities, tending to as many as 700 inpatients. It is an agency of the Department of National Defense of the Republic of the Philippines.
