Since 1946 UNICEF has been the world’s leader for children, working in more than 190 countries to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.
UNICEF first aided Indonesia in 1948 when an emergency call came in for immediate assistance following a severe drought in Lombok. In 1950, the first official cooperation began between UNICEF and the Government of Indonesia. Since those early post-independence days, UNICEF has remained a committed partner in Indonesia’s efforts to transform the lives of children and women across the archipelago.
UNICEF’s activities in Indonesia focus closely on the most vulnerable and marginalized women and children, and aim to support ongoing progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals with a focus on equity – ensuring that such progress also touches those who currently are missing out, overlooked, or otherwise unable to benefit from the improvements already experienced by many Indonesians.
UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.
