The p.i.n.e. (Primitive Integrated Naturalist Education) project is a registered charity, created to bring the wonders of the natural world back to the urban jungle through experiential wilderness education. Our mission is to inspire reconnection between people and nature through outdoor based learning and play, embracing our mantra "Be More, Need Less."
We offer experiential programs for children, teens, adults and families through all four seasons. These include our day camp and after school programs, which are available at several locations throughout the city of Toronto and in Muskoka, as well as our overnight camp in the Muskoka region. We now offer a March Break program as well.
Our model of education is largely based on the cycles of nature. Jon Young, co-founder of the Wilderness Awareness School, and his mentor Tom Brown Jr., founder of The Tracker School, developed a theoretical foundation for guiding and mentoring others on their path to an ever-deepening connection with nature. We focus our mentoring style on Jon Young’s 'Eight Shields' framework of deepening connections with nature. http://8shields.com/about/what-is-8shields/
Please also see 'Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature' for more information on the mentoring style that we use at p.i.n.e. (http://www.coyotesguide.com/).
