About Story Factory
We work with young people most at risk of low literacy. Our priority is young people from Indigenous, culturally and linguistically diverse and lower socio-economic backgrounds.
We run creative writing workshops all across Sydney, Western Sydney and NSW - free of charge.
Our programs help young people most at risk of losing confidence in their writing and switching off at school. Through creative writing we empower them to find the skills and confidence to find their voice and shape the future.
From hubs in Redfern and Parramatta, we run programs in partnership with schools and community organisations across Sydney, Western Sydney and beyond. Our innovative approach sees all creative writing workshops led by our expert storytelling team and delivered with the help of volunteer tutors who give students the one-on-one support that enables their success.
Independent evaluations consistently demonstrate positive impacts for all participating students, including improved academic outcomes, and a greater belief in themselves and what they are capable of.
Since 2012 we've taken 26,000+ student enrolments. Of these 17% are Indigenous and 44% are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. We now work with more than 1,000 students a week, lighting the spark of creativity and changing young lives.
