ShopBack was born on one of the many nights when Henry Chan and Joel Leong were toying around (with entrepreneurial ideas) in a car. The discussion eventually led to the idea of devising the smarter way to shop, starting with the nascent concept of online Cashback. They roped in the tech guru Bryan Chua and locked themselves up in a hotel room to breathe life into the idea. After a weekend of agonising labour, the trio conceived the prototype. It was almost subjected to immediate infanticide when their application for Government funding was rejected. Disappointment was turned into the best fuel for growth. The trio pushed on harder than ever and managed to secure funding amounting to over USD1M. At their two-year mark, ShopBack is gathering over two million users from six countries with over 1,300 partners the likes of Singapore Airlines, Lazada, Uber, Sephora and Cathay Cineplexes, garnering at least one order every five seconds. Launched in September 2014, ShopBack is the smarter way to shop, first connecting online retailers and online shoppers with a mutually beneficial reward system. When a shopper makes a successful transaction on any retailer redirected from ShopBack’s platform, the retailer will commission ShopBack for closing the sale. Thereafter, ShopBack will share a bulk of this commission with the shopper, who receives it as Cashback in their PayPal or bank accounts. Keen to make an impact?
