Metropol Corporation Ltd (Metropol) was first established in Kenya in 1996 as Credit Rating and Debt Management Company. Metropol’s vision is to be the recognized as the most respected total credit solutions provider in the East African region, with a mission to provide quality services and solutions to its clients. Metropol has partnered with Global Credit Rating Co. (GCR) of South Africa since 2007 and represents GCR in the East Africa Region to help increase the penetration of Corporate Ratings domestically in Kenya as well as in the wider Eastern African Market. The GCR - Metropol relationship has enabled the two partners’ to perform new ratings of some 16 banks, 29 insurance companies and 24 corporates including over 10 NSE-listed companies. In April 2011, Metropol became the 2nd credit reference bureau (CRB) to be licensed in Kenya and now enjoys a market leading position providing CRB services to more than 30 of the 43 banks. In addition, the major Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and an increasing number of microfinance institutions (MFIs) also avail of Metropol CRB services. Metropol CRB has the technology infrastructure required to support both batch and real-time responses to inquiries for customer credit reports with execution of traditional credit risk scoring, using both positive and negative data, as well as innovative models using alternative data sources in order to provide a customer a risk grade for corporates, SMEs and individuals.
