Description
Information
MapAction is a humanitarian mapping charity that works through skilled volunteers. Its aim is to save lives and minimise suffering by making the response to humanitarian emergencies as efficient and effective as possible. When a disaster strikes, MapAction deploys volunteer mapping professionals to the scene to help coordinate the response and get aid to where it is needed most. They help responders understand the ongoing needs of survivors, who may have lost their homes and livelihoods to the emergency. MapAction’s disaster preparedness activities complement its emergency response by working collaboratively with humanitarian partners to enable an effective response. The charity has been operational since 2002 and undertook its first major emergency deployment in 2004 for the Indian Ocean tsunami. Since then, MapAction has delivered over 56 humanitarian missions, helping target and coordinate the delivery of aid to millions of people affected by emergencies including natural disasters and conflict-related crises.
