Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is a unicameral national Parliament of Lithuania. The Seimas constitutes the legislative branch of government in Lithuania, enacting laws and amendments to the Constitution, passing the budget, confirming the Prime Minister and the Government and controlling their activities. Its 141 members are elected for a four-year term, with 71 elected in individual constituencies, and 70 elected in a nationwide vote based on proportional representation. A political party must receive at least 5%, and a multi-party union at least 7%, of the national vote to qualify for the proportional representation seats in the Parliament. THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE PARLIAMENT: The Office of the Seimas is an administration of the Seimas. It is responsible for ensuring the smooth work of the Seimas and enabling the legislative institution to perform the functions prescribed to it by the Constitution. The mission of the Office of the Seimas includes facilitating the representation of the nation in exercising the powers established by the Constitution in the areas of legislation, parliamentary scrutiny, international cooperation and promoting active dialogue between the Parliament and society, etc. The Office of the Seimas is headed by the Secretary General of the Seimas. The Office of the Seimas employs 490 members of staff.
