With its long history and tradition, KyungnamUniversity (KU) strives to be one of the preeminent academic institutions of higher learning on regional and national levels. We take pride in being recognized as a ‘top private institution’ of learning, in having had over 140,000 graduates pass through our doors, and in maintaining what has been called ‘one of the ten most beautiful campuses in Korea’. Founded in 1946, KU is devoted to developing students into well-rounded professionals, leaders of regional development, and independent global citizens under its motto ‘Truth, Freedom, Creation’. In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, possessing expert knowledge is insufficient in itself. Today’s apprentices require considerably more if they are to be the artisans of our tomorrow. With this in mind, Kyungnam University launched an educational innovation program to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The program aims to develop each student as a thinker and a doer, and cultivate the unique personality traits within. Thus our general education system focuses on learner experience and participation and features ‘customized module curriculum’ and ‘process-oriented performance evaluation system’. In addition, our cyber campus and K-MOOC course offerings make many KU classes available 24/7. By reforming our curricula, taking advantage of new platforms, fostering various collaborations, and embracing new technologies, we intend to continually improve our systems so that we may become one of the top 30 domestic universities by the year 2030—a goal that can be achieved by producing members of society who value and are in turn valued by their local communities for their contributions.
